It's a long way to the top...

I’ve always wanted to play in a rock band and the Celefest Rock Out Contest gave me an opportunity to do just that. I have never been in a band or performed in a contest, so I thought I could gain valuable experience from this event and help my friends at the same time, since they needed a drummer.

We spent about a month practicing once or twice a week at a studio. Besides having a great time making music, we also bonded together. We soon learned how to play together as a band and worked towards out goal of winning the contest.

On the actual day of our performance, we were all feeling nervous. I began to forget my parts and started to freak out. All the pressure was on us as we were the opening band. When the time came, we walked up on stage and all of a sudden I could remember my parts. I thought we played well even though the tempo was faster than it should have been. We were all relieved to have completed the song and were all anxious to hear the results. Our heart sank when another band was announced as the winning band. Though we didn’t win, we gained valuable experience and can now truly call ourselves a band. We were all quite disappointed but we aimed to work harder and win the next competition.

As for M.I.L.K., the whole event raised a rather large sum of money for the charity. Celefest was a huge success and we were all glad to have been a part of it.

BANNERS GALORE!!!

Celefest gave me a great opportunity to reach out to the community and help underprivileged children from M.I.L.K. Though preparing for the event was a tedious and tiring process, it benefited others and I was glad to help out. The making of our stall’s banner was a tough but rewarding process. I had to come up with a banner design that was visually captivating. The banner making took my classmates and me three days to complete. The day before celefest, we hung the banner up above our stall and arranged the tables and chairs to set up a face-painting booth. It was a physically tiring day we spent in school. However, it was all worthwhile when we saw the happy smiles on the children’s faces on the big day. We managed to have fun while managing the stall and the whole event went well. I’m glad that I had a chance to participate in such an event, and that we were successful with completing our tasks.
